Surf vs Turf
Since 2009, GBAAZK has sponsored an annual competition between staff from The Maryland Zoo and National Aquarium dubbed Surf vs Turf. These events act as an opportunity for the staffs to interact and get to know one another while fighting for Baltimore bragging rights. Competitions have included flag football, softball, kickball, and bar trivia. After 7 years the standings sit at:

Surf vs. Turf: Kickball
August 18, 2011
The rain came down in buckets and the thunder roared before the kickoff of this year's Surf vs. Turf Kickball Championship. Just as we were losing hope we would be able to play, the skies cleared and the kickball gods smiled down on the field that would witness another epic battle of The National Aquarium in Baltimore vs. The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. Donning neon green jerseys, the MZiB squad took to the field riding a two-contest win streak. Having prevailed in flag football (2008) and softball (2009) the Zoo was hoping to bring home another "W" to lock up the three-peat. Unfortunately, Team Turf wasn't prepared for the seasoned kickball veterans that comprised Team Surf. The talented feet of the Aquarium were too much to bear as they scored early and often. Team Surf captured the lead in the first inning and never looked back. The last 3 outs were made after the sun had gone down (which is impressive because it was impossible to see the ball at that point) and the Aquarium team had ended all chances of another Zoo win.
The Final: Surf 7- Turf 3. Congratulations, Team Surf!!!!
This year was a huge success for Surf Vs. Turf and regardless of the outcome it was an immense amount of fun. We owe a HUGE "thank you" to Jason Ruby (our honorary referee) and Charlie (the grill master) for donating their time and talents.
