Welcome to our site

AAZK is a nonprofit (U.S. 501c3) volunteer organization made up of zoo keepers and other interested persons dedicated to professional animal care and conservation.

The purpose of our Greater Baltimore AAZK chapter is to promote the profession of 'animal keeper' and to aid various conservation programs through our activities.

GBAAZK is a group affiliated with
The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. Founded in 1876, The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is the third oldest zoo in the United States and is internationally known for its conservation and research contributions. The Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) , assuring excellent care for animals, a great experience for visitors, and a better future for all living things. We are very proud to help uphold the zoo's mission to inspire and educate people, lending support toward the conservation of wild life and wild places. The Zoo is committed to serving its communities by engaging people with the wonder of the living world through personal encounters that foster lifelong harmonious relationships with nature.

Recent Activities

GBAAZK and The Federal House Bar and Grill recently hosted a fundraiser to benefit relief efforts from the Gulf Oil Spill on Tuesday, August 10th. The event was a great success and all benefits from the even were directed to TriState Bird Rescue and Research, who are at the forefront of oil spill recovery and clean-up efforts. Thanks to everyone who came out to participate, and to The Federal House Bar and Grill for their support!

July 19-25 was National Zoo Keeper Week! Our chapter celebrated by hosting our very own "Zookeeper Olympics!" Staff members from all areas of the zoo teamed up to battle it out in a series of fun activities based on different aspects of a zoo keeper's job. These events took place after work on Wednesday, July 21st.

On Wednesday, July 7th, several members of our chapter participated in a behind-the-scenes tour of our local MD Medieval times. The generous staff showcased how they care for their horses, and demonstrated the principles of training that they use in their shows.
