Ani-MADNESS

March 2013
Modeled after the March Madness basketball bracket, Ani-madness is an online popular vote for the coolest animal. This year GBAAZK reached out to fellow AAZK chapters to participate in the bracket. National Chapter, Jacksonville, and North Carolina all joined Baltimore and held their own chapter fundraiser while playing along with GBAAZK. The 2013 most popular animal is the Okapi! The overall winner with the most correct bracket was Baltimore's Paula Blair.  Dan Dembiec, Erica Pytlovancy, and Gisela Wiggins all placed top within their chapters. Thanks to all for their participation this year!

Penny Jar Competition

April 2013

GBAAZK held a Penny Jar Competition during the month of April. The 8 areas within the MZiB Animal Department were given the chance to get rid of all their spare change and put it towards a good cause. Teams filled their jars with pennies for positive points, and opposing teams added all other coins and bills for negative points. After 4 weeks, the Embassy Team took the win in the final week. The Embassy received a custom made cupcake cake for their win. The total amount raised was $140.30, and we thank everyone for their support!

April Ani-MADNESS

April 2012
GBAAZK added a zoological twist to everyone's favorite basketball tournament this year and for the first time celebrated April Ani-MADNESS. This animal bracket-challenge pitted 32 amazing animal species from 4 global regions together to face off. Participants voted to determine which animal was the coolest and most unique. In the end it was a battle of the mustelids (the weasel family) as the Honey Badger defeated the Giant Otter by popular vote and was deemed the coolest and most unique animal of 2012! With 34 participants, GBAAZK raised $170.00 with our Ani-Madness fundraiser.

Penny Jar Competition

March 2012
Back by popular demand, in March GBAAZK held a Penny Jar Competition. The 8 areas within the MZiB Animal Department were given the chance to get rid of all their spare change and put it towards a good cause. Teams filled their jars with pennies for positive points, and opposing teams added all other coins and bills for negative points. After 4 weeks, the Management Team took the win in the final week. Management will receive a lunch of their choice, courtesy of GBAAZK. The total amount raised was $210.84, and we thank everyone for their support!

Oscars for the Arctic: Roll out the Red Carpet for Polar Bears!

February 26, 2012
We had a successful event at Dogwatch Tavern. About fifty people gathered to watch and play along with the televised Oscar show. There were themed drinks, games, a red carpet, play along Oscars ballots and not to mention great raffle prizes given away throughout the night. We raised $550 to donate to Trees for You and Me. Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support for the Arctic and all of the majestic animals that live in the tundra.

Special thanks to the many local businesses that donated prizes including The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, The Rusty Scupper, Mr. Yogatos, Pitango Gelato, The Green Turtle, Bahama Breeze, The Baltimore Comedy Factory, Todd Conner's, James Joyce Pub and Restaurant, The Fell's Point Visitor's Center and Polar Bears International.
